As an artist, the journey of motherhood has been a transformative experience that reignited my passion for the natural world which rekindled my curiosity and wonder that once fueled my creative spirit. Making it through the intensity of early motherhood, I came to realise it had gifted me a fresh perspective on the world - an opportunity to see things through new eyes, those of my children.
The way my daughter marveled at a butterfly or examined in awe the vibrant hues of a flower served as a powerful reminder of the wonder that exists in the everyday.
Being witness to her unbridled fascination with nature has translated into a deeper connection with my own surroundings and a richer tapestry of inspiration for my art.

Since 2022, the subject I have been enjoying the most in my work is florals. As I reflect on where this passion originated, I realise it was largely influenced by my daughter’s love for them, which encouraged me to examine them more closely and choose to fully embrace the joy of painting such beautiful subjects. Discovering the unique meanings behind each flower added to my delight, emerging as a subsequent pleasure after I had already recreated a flower through my own interpretation on canvas.
I have also found motherhood to be a lesson in modeling behavior. By embracing my own curiosity and wonder of the natural world, I set an example for my children to follow. As they observe my excitement in exploring the outdoors, engaging with the environment, and translating these experiences into art, they learn the value of connecting with nature and nurturing their own creativity. Is it any wonder that my daughter is now drawing and painting flowers as well?
As an artist, this renewed connection has breathed new life into my creative process, enriching my work with the genuine sense of awe that I see mirrored in my children's eyes. The journey of parenthood and the journey of artistic expression intersect beautifully, reminding me to always find inspiration in the world around me and to infuse my art with the magic of curiosity and wonder.
