5 Dining Room Art Pieces to Impress Your Guests & Spark Conversation

Dining rooms are the heart of the home, where conversations flow and memories are made, so the art you choose for this space should inspire and spark a connection. When it comes to selecting the perfect dining room art, few things can compare to the impact of a thoughtfully curated piece.

As an artist, I’ve seen how the right artwork can transform a room, creating a focal point that draws people in and sets the tone for every meal.

5 dining room art pieces to consider for your home

Whether you’re looking for something bold and expressive or serene and inviting, here are five pieces from my collection that will bring life and energy to your dining room.

Rising Together

Rising Together brings both warmth and elegance to any dining room. The rich, earthy tones of the petals create a sense of harmony and togetherness, making it a perfect focal point for gatherings around the table.

This artwork features one of my favourite flowers, the resilient zinnia. It is an oil painting on a large 122 x 91 cm (48 x 36”) canvas, framed in an oak frame by my awesome local framer Joe from Cool Art Gallery and Framing.

Wild Symphony

Wild Symphony is a striking floral arrangement that adds a dramatic touch to your dining room. The rich, deep hues of the flowers contrast beautifully against the softer, more muted background, creating a perfect balance of energy and calm.

When I created Wild Symphony, I wanted to evoke the energy of joy and camaraderie. This artwork is an oil painting on a 91 x 61 cm (36 x 24”) canvas framed in floating oak frame by Joe at Cool Art Gallery and Framing.

Into the Wild

Into the Wild is a vibrant celebration of floral beauty that instantly brightens any dining room. The rich, warm hues and lively arrangement create a sense of movement and joy, making it the perfect centrepiece for your dining space.

This piece is a smaller artwork, yet still creates quite a presence! It is oil on a 41 x 51 cm (16 x 20”) panel and was a finalist artwork in the Lethbridge 20000 in 2023.

Softly Spoken

Softly Spoken brings an air of quiet elegance to your dining room with its delicate portrayal of flowers in a simple glass vase. The muted, pastel background enhances the deep purples and greens of the arrangement, creating a tranquil yet striking contrast.

Softly Spoken was completed at the end of 2023 and was one of the first paintings of a still-life subject matter. My obsession with florals as a subject began, and I am still just as curious about them now. This piece is oil on a 51 x 61 cm (20 x 24”) canvas.

Future Love

Future Love is a bold, captivating piece that adds depth and drama to your dining room. The rich, dark background creates a stunning contrast with the vibrant flowers, allowing their colours to pop and draw the viewer’s attention.

I had so much fun creating this piece. My favourite element about this is how deep I could go with the background colour, protecting those pops of warm brown underpainting and creating a luminescent glow. This work was one of my earlier floral works where I really began to find the joy in playing with the underpainting and removing painted layers, revealing details underneath. This artwork is an oil painting on a 91 x 61 cm (36 x 24”) canvas framed in floating oak frame by Joe at Cool Art Gallery and Framing

FAQs about dining room art

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about finding the perfect dining room art.

What should be on dining room walls?

When it comes to decorating your dining room walls, it’s all about creating a space that feels welcoming and reflects your personal style. Dining room art can instantly elevate the atmosphere, whether you prefer bold abstract pieces, calming landscapes, or a mix of both.

You can also experiment with framed photographs, mirrors, or a curated gallery wall for added depth and character. The key is to strike a balance between visual interest and the overall vibe of your dining room.

What kind of art should go in a dining room?

The dining room art you choose should align with the room's mood and purpose. For a formal dining area, sophisticated dining room art like elegant paintings, minimalist designs, or black-and-white photography works well.

In a more casual space, vibrant and playful pieces might bring the room to life. Think about how you want guests to feel during a meal – dining room art can help create that warm, inviting atmosphere.

How big should dining room art be?

The size of dining room art depends on the wall space and the layout of your room. As a general rule, the artwork should fill about two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of your dining table.

Large art pieces can make a statement, while a series of smaller works can create a dynamic visual effect. Just make sure the proportions work well with the surrounding furniture and decor, so the art enhances the space rather than overpowering it.

Should art be centred on wall or over dining table?

Dining room art doesn’t always have to be perfectly centred on the wall. Centring it over the dining table tends to create a balanced look that draws attention to the main feature of the room – the table itself.

However, if you have other focal points like a buffet or a fireplace, you might choose to position the art accordingly. Ultimately, you want the dining room art to complement the flow and symmetry of the space.

Final thoughts on the best dining room art

Dining room art does more than just decorate the space; it creates a focal point that can transform the entire atmosphere. The right pieces can spark conversation, making meals more memorable while reflecting your unique style.

Whether you choose bold abstract works or timeless classics, dining room art has the power to elevate your space and become a central feature that draws people in. Investing in art for your dining room isn’t just about filling the walls – it’s about creating a space where memories are made and stories are shared.
