As Light Gathers was inspired by a wildflower walk through the Marcus Beach High Dunes, within Noosa National Park on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. I was captivated by the afternoon light filtering through the dense layers of native banksias and Wedding Bush (Ricinocarpos pinifolius), illuminating the foliage and creating what felt like a pathway of light through the Wallum heathland.

Working in oils, I wanted to capture the way the light travelled through the vegetation, revealing small details amongst the tangled growth while allowing other areas to fall into shadow. There was something so beautiful about the contrast between the dense, unruly landscape and the softness of the light moving through it.
